Miela Mayer

Investor and Operating Partner

Miela joined Third Sphere in 2022 and is an Investor and Operating Partner energized by deep dives and tinkering. She sees climate as a physical challenge requiring physical solutions, and scaling hardtech as benefitting from an expanded capital stack — so she’s focused efforts on hardware investing and mapping out non-dilutive capital sources to help climate tech founders navigate the credit landscape and other alternative funding mechanisms.

Miela approaches the climate challenge as one manifestation of a greater metacrisis in societal coordination and is excited by practical solutions that benefit the world we live in without relying on altruism, policy, or 10+ year science derisking timelines for success.

Prior to Third Sphere, she spent 2+ years in management consulting at Bain & Company focused on the Utilities and Corporate Sustainability sectors. She brings additional experience in climate finance from time at the New York Green Bank and Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

Miela graduated from Yale University with a dual BS degree in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Studies, as well as a scholar certificate from the Yale Climate and Energy Studies Institute (YCEI).

Intellectual and academic explorations have centered on sustainable industrial / product design, climate science, paleontology (paleoclimates and planktonic foramanifera), enhanced weathering, financing green technologies, regenerative agriculture, and the politics of the farm bill.

Living with great pals in SF. Outdoor enthusiast, intrigued by social containers and how they shape communities / personal exploration. Free time involves a healthy amount of tea drinking, and all the memeable SF activities (climbing, spike ball, backcountry skiing, existentialism, etc.).
